Description

Cultural differences can bring many exciting and interesting aspects to a relationship. They can also bring some challenges. In this Sunday morning Q & A session, intercultural couples will have a chance to hear how they can negotiate differences, promote healthy communication and learn helpful tips in a relaxed environment.

The session will be run by Jasmine Sliger, who is a Cross Cultural Counselling and Organisational Psychologist and will be followed by a Q&A. The session is open to the public and is designed for couples and individuals for different cultural backgrounds.

The event is organised by the APS (Australian Psychological Society) Psychology & Cultures Interest Group. The Psychology & Cultures Interest Group is a not-for-profit group, run by psychologists and psychologists in training, to promote and educate about the importance of cultural awareness amongst psychologist and in the broader community.

About Jasmine Sliger MA(Clin Psych)

Jasmine Sliger is an intercultural specialist, counselling and organisational psychologist, executive coach, and accredited mediator with over 35 years’ experience. She is currently the national convener for the Psychology and Cultures Interest Group for the APS. Clinically trained in the U.S, Jasmine brings with her a wealth of experience after working with people from over 80 different cultural backgrounds within a variety of settings including prisons, hospitals, schools, and private practice. Jasmine has continued expanding upon her post-clinical training in family therapy at the Jay Haley Family Therapy Institute, psychosexual disorders at Johns Hopkins University, and is a certified Level 2 Gottman therapist.

Jasmine has conducted consultancy work with some of Australia’s biggest companies, was a lecturer at several universities, and provided counselling services to children, adolescents, couples, and families. Her past roles include being the president of The Australian Society of Sex Educators, Researchers, and Therapists, undertaking supervisory roles for fellow clinical, counselling, and organisational psychologists, a crisis team coordinator, and a clinical director of programs for disturbed adolescents. She has also co-founded therapeutic programs in Australia and the U.S. In 1987, she formed JSA International Communications, a boutique consultancy specialising in organisational change, intercultural communication, intercultural team building, and executive training. With her combined knowledge in both clinical psychology and organisational development, Jasmine approaches complex problems from an individual, familial, and organisational viewpoint.
