Event description
An event hosted by Kate Challis Interiors as part of Melbourne Design Week.

About this event

Join us as we explore how isolation and solitude have shaped art and design across continents and historic periods.

Artist Hoda Afshar, Emma Crimmings (Assistant Director, Artbank), art historian Christopher Marshall (Associate Professor, School of Culture and Communication, The University of Melbourne) and interior designer, Kate Challis will delve into the role isolation plays in the lives of creatives.

What is it and how does it work? Is isolation something to yearn for or to circumvent? Is it a necessary tool for creativity? What is the difference between it and solitude? How have artists throughout history grappled with isolation, solitude and quarantine? Is it the lifeblood of creativity and innovation or its death?

All ticket fees will be donated to the Artists’ Benevolent Fund which makes funds available to artists in times of emergency.

This event is part of Melbourne Design Week 2021, an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV.
