Creative Industries Research & Innovation Cluster Networking Event
Thursday, 17 July 2014 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (AEST)
The Creative Industries Research and Innovation Cluster (CIRIC) Networking Event will be an opportunity for researchers to come together to discuss progress of the Cluster and meet other researchers from within the university.
Attendees will be welcomed by Professor Caroline McMillen, University of Newcastle Vice Chancellor followed by a talk from Dr Phillip McIntyre from the School of Design, Communication and IT entitled "Creativity and Creative Industries". Phillip's talk will focus on the link between creativity and the creative industries as well as a 'report from the field' on Phillip and his colleagues' ARC research project based on mapping the Creative Industries in Newcastle and surrounding areas.
The talk will be followed by a round of speed networking to allow attendees to meet researchers from across the university and discuss their research interests in the hope of fostering wider cross discipline connections.
There will be an opportunity for group discussion where attendees can share thoughts, ideas, proposed challenges, potential activities and projects to help identify research themes and aims for the Creative Industries Research & Innovation Cluster.
The event will conclude with drinks and canapés (4:00pm to 5:00pm).
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This event is open to all University of Newcastle staff with an interest in the Creative Industries.
WHAT IS SPEED NETWORKING AND HOW WILL IT WORK?
Speed networking is a structured process for facilitating rapid introductions and conversation between people who don't already know each other.
At this event, attendees will be seated around a large, U shaped table in the Gallery. Each pairing will be given four minutes to introduce themselves, their research interests and current projects before the moderator will indicate that it is time to move to the next pairing. One person will get up and move to the next seat, while one person will remain seated and the four minutes starts again.
The idea is to meet as many people as possible during the speed networking and get in touch with colleagues from other disciplines that you may not have previously had a chance to meet.
Participants in the speed networking will be provided with personalised 'business cards' to swap during the speed networking so that you can continue to connect after the event.
PERSONALISED BUSINESS CARDS
When attendees arrive at the event they will be given personalised 'business cards'. These cards will contain information provided during the registration process including name, research keywords and a link to your researcher profiles. These cards can also be swapped during the drinks and canapés at the end of the event.
