WORKSHOP and DISCUSSION

Join the discussion as artists Cigdem Aydemir and Abdul Abdullah demystify and unpack their creative processes and their and approaches to the We Are All Affected exhibition.

Workshop the practical key steps to turning ideas into art. Bring your ideas/key issues along and learn how to turn your thinking into making.

This is a group activity. Recommended Age: 15 plus

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

  • Abdul Abdullah explores the concepts in his work of anxiety, distress or anger sometimes faced by Muslims dealing with relentless negative stereotypes and public imagery.

  • Cigdem’s gutsy and at times humorous art practice deals with the stereotypes faced by women from minority communities, in particular, she explores the obscene, sometimes hysterical response to the hijab.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION - WE ARE ALL AFFECTED

We Are All Affected is the second part of a two part series of multi-faceted exhibitions being held across Western Sydney. Part 1 was held at the Multicultural Eid Festival of Fairfield in July 2017, as an experimental pop-up style exhibition designed to engage members of the community through an interactive experience with the artists and their works.

What follows is an evolution of these works in response to the community. We Are All Affected spans across two venues, Fairfield City Museum & Gallery and Peacock Gallery & Auburn Studios where the artists share their creative interpretation of what is fast becoming a culturally specific form of anxiety.

The exhibition allows observation of the artists’ response to their interactions at the Eid Festival and gain insight into culturally specific forms of anxiety as interpreted by them.

The exhibiting artists are part of Eleven; a collective of Australian Muslim artists, curators and writers. For more information visit the Eleven website www.eleven-collective.com

This exhibition is part of The Big Anxiety—Festival of Arts + Science + People.
