Description

Lets shake it up! Do you want some inspiration and new skills for more effective, creative actions and events? Want to think big, get creative and grab people’s attention? Develop visually stunning, fun actions and campaign events?

Is your group new to change making and you want to push the boundaries and step out of your comfort zone, but need some support as to how? How do we challenge government and corporations safely and effectively?

Inspired by culture jams, unusual tactics, groups like the Yes Men, and Liberate Tate, the fabulous colour and props of international climate marches; as well as some of our own local little known history, we have put together an fun workshop to get our creative juices flowing and share skills to build more “out of the box” activism.

* What makes for an effective action? Theories of successful action design

* How do we get our story out there... so you have designed an awesome, creative and colourful action? What are some hot tips for getting media interest and sharing our story out of our usual networks

* Learn more about powerful nonviolent resistance and how peaceful protest has been part of successful campaigns and social movements worldwide

* What is nonviolent conflict, and how do we keep things peaceful if we are stretching out of our comfort zone ... learn about your legal rights & how to do things safely

Nicola Paris is the Coordinator of CounterAct with fifteen years experience in social change and more than 12 years in the climate justice movement. She wants more fun, more creative actions and to support people to take meaningful and powerful steps to support their passion - action is the antidote to despair after all!

The event is suitable for people old and new to social change, grassroots activists, people working in NGO's involved in any type of progressive change who want to create better events and actions and care about climate and social justice.

We support family friendly events - child care is not provided but children may be welcome, pending available space.

*ENTRANCE BY DONATION but registration to secure spaces is required please*

Aboriginal people are welcomed at no cost. We pay respects to the traditional custodians, on whose land this event takes place. Sovereignty was never ceded.
