Event description
A full day workshop for people interested in how to create and manage a regenerative horse property in Australian conditions

About this Event

While literature and information about regenerative, regrarian and sustainable agriculture is now in abundance there is very little about how to create and manage a property primarily supporting horses. Charles and Nadia have devoted the last decade of their lives to this problem, culminating in the property they are now proud to call home, Pine Hill.

Pine Hill is now a working Australian Stock Horse Stud running wholly barefoot horses. The property has transformed from a weed-infested goat and rock farm to a beautiful property with a rich diversity of plants and grasses with healthy, happy horses.

Charles, a current Farmers for Climate Change Fellow, and Nadia, an academic and life-long equestrienne, have studied and applied a range of approaches to their properties over this time, including regrarian and poly-face farming, biodynamics, native grass management, equicentral property design, equine science, dung-beetle farming, key-line and natural sequence farming and barefoot equine management. They have a wealth of knowledge to share about how each of these approaches has pros but also cons that don't always work well when managing horses in the best possible way. Many traditional horse management approaches are problematic to both horses and the land they live on and can be difficult for horse people to change.

The event will be a combination of lectures, workshops and a field-based tour. Charles and Nadia will take you through their property, showing you what has worked, what hasn't worked, and what is still a work in progress. This is a great opportunity to see a property after only 4 years of management using this approach - a rarity when most field-based learning occurs on 'finished' farms.

Participants will receive a comprehensive booklet and worksheets as well as a fully-catered lunch on the farm. Please let us know if you have special dietary requirements.

This will be a COVIDSafe event. Please bring a mask with you, although we will remain outdoors at all times so social distancing shouldn't be a problem. You will be required to check in via a QR Code on arrival. Hand sanitiser will be available for use.
