Description

About the Day

The health, disability and aged care sectors are undergoing enormous change and we need to change with them.

This exciting half-day conference will bring together consumers, government and business to energise our shared commitment to support a better life for people in our communities, now and over the long term.

Over the morning we will explore the lived experience of consumers, the economic future for local industries, new business models and the success stories of opportunities realised. We will be showcasing a range of home grown examples of industry based businesses that are forging innovative approaches to consumer needs.

The City of Charles Sturt invite you to join this collaborative event and be part of creating vibrant local market places.

Speaker Bios

Dr Fiona Kerr

Dr Fiona Kerr is founder of the NeuroTech Institute, an independent body working at the intersection of neuroscience, emerging technology and ethical practice.
Fiona advises and works with organisations ranging from US Defense to Cirque du Soleil, with projects including how soldiers interact with autonomous systems in decision making, how to design multimodal gadgets which have a positive cognitive impact, and why face-to-face interaction with a nurse makes a patient heal better.

She is an international speaker, appears regularly in media and works across five countries with companies, research bodies and governments such as Finland’s steering committee to design their future AI program.

Rob DiMonte

Rob is a passionate South Australian seeking to improve the economic and social wellbeing of the State and its people.

Rob’s role is to help South Australian businesses in the disability sector and associated industries make the most of the opportunities ahead as the State transitions to the NDIS. He is engaging with the Sector to help realise the economic benefits through job creation, new business models, capabilities and resources. Rob is helping to reposition the Care Industry for the longer term through the development of the State’s Disability Industry and Workforce Strategy.

Dr Andrew Kellie

Dr Andrew Kellie understands the value of primary health care. Whilst he manages a full case load of patients within his general practice business, he offers leadership in business development and innovative solutions for health care service delivery.
His vision is to create value in the interstitial spaces between the various health care and wellness disciplines, and to collaboratively design and implement business models for new health care and wellness products and services.
Andrew advocates for general practice as the foremost medical specialty underpinning Australia's health care system. He believes in integrated multidisciplinary patient-centred health care which can be delivered within the context of the "medical home".

Melanie Tran

Melanie Tran is a disruptor, an innovator, an activist, an entrepreneur. Driven by a deep sense of empathy, Melanie has an orientation towards finding creative solutions, and is on a mission to prove that disability does not define a person.

As a recent graduate in Bachelor of Digital Media - Interaction Design at Torrens University Australia, Melanie displays unwavering passion, and expertise, for UX (User Experience) Design. Melanie’s lived-experience, developed skills and knowledge allow for her work to span the disability, health, education and technology sectors.

MC- Mary Freer

Mary Freer brings life, vibrancy, and caring to the issues of our day. And she does so with a deep sense of how to employ the most effective strategies and tactics in building a coalition for change.”
In 2016 Mary launched Compassion Lab, a space where leaders can practice together to uncover compassion in their organisations, their teams, and themselves. The link between innovation, creativity, workplace safety and compassion is now well researched - Mary's work unpacks what this means for individuals.
Mary is a Westpac Bicentennial Social Change Fellow, a Member of the Australian Compassion Council, a TEDx speaker and a Coach at Seth Godin’s AltMBA. Mary is regularly sought after as a keynote speaker, executive coach and advisor on cultural change and compassionate leadership.
