Create your own Lake Creature Workshop

Join artist Kate Dorrough for a fun, hands-on workshop inspired by the stunning lake surrounding MAC yapang Gallery and the local legend of the Pulbah Island Monster. Using upcycled textiles, buttons, beads, and sequins, you’ll design and craft your very own stuffed fabric creature that can be taken home, hung in your room or used as a unique pillow.

Learn creative skills including designing, cutting, stitching, hand sewing, and adding stuffing to bring your river creature to life. All materials are provided, along with guided instructions for using a needle and thread.

• Ages: 12-16 years.
• When: 10am -12pm, Thursday 22nd January.
• Cost: $25 + booking fee, Lake Mac Arts Member: $22.50 + booking fee.

Workshop Structure:

Start by sketching your creature ideas on paper, then bring them to life! You’ll transfer your design onto a folded square of fabric, pin and cut it out, and stitch the pieces together. After turning your creation inside out, you’ll add soft stuffing to give it shape.

Next comes the fun part—decorate your river creature with vibrant fabric paints, extra fabric details, buttons, sequins, and beads. Finally, add a wool loop so your creature can hang freely as a unique art piece or double as a quirky pillow.

About the venue: MAC, yapang

The Museum of Art and Culture (MAC, yapang) is located at the end of First Street, Booragul, on the edge of Lake Macquarie. MAC has ramp access for wheelchairs and prams, baby changing facilities and accessible toilets.

MAC, yapang can be reached easily from the lake foreshore cycleway, the water, or by public transport. There is parking for cars, and buses with accessible spaces available, onsite and adjacent to the Hunter Rowing Club.
