Create your own graphic story with award-winning author-illustrator Alyssa Bermudez! Learn fun techniques for characters and storytelling!

Make your own graphic story. Join award-winning author and illustrator Alyssa Bermudez! Learn simple techniques to bring ideas to life—covering characters, pacing, and how to keep stories clear and exciting. There’ll be time to draw, ask questions, and start a comic to continue at home.

Alyssa is a New Yorker turned Tasmanian, whose vibrant watercolour and digital illustrations have appeared in over a dozen picture books, on fabric collections, and even on stage.

Her debut graphic memoir Big Apple Diaries is part of the permanent collection at the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City, and her latest memoir Run Home explores friendship, resilience, and creativity. It has received a Kirkus Star, a Publishers Weekly starred review and a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection for 2026!

With a passion for inclusivity and emotional honesty, Alyssa brings her expertise and energy to young storytellers ready to unleash their imagination.

Ages 10-14.


Parking:

• Maximum 2 hour stay at the library

• Parking in Channel Court shopping complex is maximum 3 hours.

To ensure a successful event, please:

• Let us know if you can’t attend so we can give your place to someone else

• Don't attend if you are unwell

• Follow hygiene practices eg. hand sanitising

• Let us know if you have any support needs or if a support person will be coming with you.

Accessibility:

• 2 permit mobility parking spaces next to the library - 2 hour parking limits

• Level access, automatic entrance doors, wide doorways and aisles for wheelchairs

• Accessible toilet with a change table for children

• Parenting room in Channel Court shopping centre next to the library
