Event description
Learn the techniques used in the ready-to-wear luxury fashion industry to make a pattern from an existing garment in a two-day masterclass.

About this Event

Over the weekend you will learn the techniques used in the fashion industry to make a pattern from an existing or vintage garment to create something new without unpicking or cutting up the original.

With professional couture pattern cutter Alice Cliff you will learn to accurately calculate dart values and gathers and add new design lines and features to customise your new garment. Learn about the construction of pockets, fly fronts, facings and linings.

Bring three garments – a favourite blouse, shirt, top, skirt or trousers – and we will select the best option to use.

Saturday 27 + Sunday 28 February 2021 at Camelot, Mosman Park

Day One: Demonstration of tracing off panels. Discussion of new ideas for the finished garment. Once the design is formed, start tracing of the panels of the garment and transferring this to a paper pattern.

Day Two: Make any design or fit changes to the pattern. Learn to check the pattern and add the elements that make it a professional pattern. Then sew a toile of the garment to check the fit. Discuss the other garment option and any challenges they pose.

Skill Level:

Suitable for people who have used commercial patterns before and would like to further their skills to creating their own patterns, and people who would like to become professional pattern cutters.
