Event description

Description

From colonial times through to the 1930s, white authorities had Aboriginal leaders wear breastplates or “kingplates” in a bid to represent their status. But many indigenous communities didn’t believe in the existence of “kings”. It was a concept enforced by the white authorities. Explore the rich history and significance of breastplates, before creating your very own under the guidance of renowned Ballarat indigenous arts collective Pitcha Makin Fellas. Passionate about culture and community, this deadly mob has had its work showcased around Australia since its very first gathering in 2013.
