For anyone wanting to get into the Amateur Radio world, the CRARC Foundation Licence Course covers the core concepts required.

About this Event

For anyone wanting to get into the Amateur Radio world, the CRARC Foundation Licence Course covers many of the core concepts required to get into Amateur Radio, and optionally provides Australian Maritime College (AMC) accredited assessment to get your licence.

What you’ll learn.

  • the basic practical technical skills to operate amateur radio equipment, with a focus on ensuring safe and non-interfering operation.

  • the required practical operating procedures to use your amateur radio equipment on air and ensure efficient and legal use of the amateur radio spectrum, covered by your licence level.

  • The basics of electricity, transmitters, receivers, feedlines, antennas, propagation and electromagnetic radiation.

No prior learning is assumed or required for this course.

There is no requirement to be a member of CRARC to participate in the course.If you register for the Foundation course we offer a 12 months free membership by filling in a complimentary membership form on attendance at the course.

Most of the Foundation Course learning follows closely "Your Entry to Amateur Radio"

( Foundation Manual), available as an optional extra as a part of this course. This does not need to be studied prior to the course, but can be invaluable during and after the course as a reference.

The Foundation Manuals  will be available on the day of the course  If you would like to obtain a copy prior to the course email a request to education@crarc.org.au to arrange payment, collection or postage.

All participants of the CRARC Foundation Licence Course may choose to do the AMC Assessment to gain their amateur radio licence at the conclusion of the course. 

Australian Maritime College Assessment Fees (AMC) as of 1st April 2019,

  • Foundation Assessment Including Practical Assessment     $90.00
  • Level1 Next available callsign recommendation                         $25.00
  • Level 2 Selected callsign recommendation                                 $35.00

All AMC assessment Fees can paid by EFT to AMC prior to the assessment or by Cheque or Credit Card paid to the assessor on the day of the assessment. (NOTE cash will not be accepted).  Before commencing an assessment Photographic identification is required in the form of a driving licence or the like.

The Foundation course is run by volunteers from the Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club and accredited AMC Amateur radio assessors who generously give their time, we reserve the right to cancel/postpone the event if attendance does not reach a minimum of four participants.

ACMA Licence Fees (OCT 2020)

New Licence  Fee   $80.00

Licence Renewal Fee $55.00

NOTE If you successfully pass the assessments, AMC will issue a certificate of proficiency and forward your licence application to ACMA. (Fee paid on line after an emailed invoice from ACMA) 

The Course operates across both Saturday and Sunday, starting at 8:30am sharp and wrapping up around 4pm.

 Registration close fifteen days before the course start date.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

There are no minimum age requirements for the course, ages approx 12 and above are encouraged to attend.
