Description

Aimed at:

Maternal and child health nurse, General practitioner, Teacher, Health care provider, HACC worker, Disability worker, Mediation Worker, Members of Victoria Police, Professionals working in the court setting, Professional working in a community legal centre, Professionals working in a child protection/family services context and Professionals working in housing and homelessness services

Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to define family violence, know the prevalence, understand the gendered nature and identify a broad range of violent behaviours

  • Participants will have a greater understanding/empathy for women experiencing family violence, understand that there are a diversity of experiences and understand that women face barriers.

  • Participants will know how to ask appropriate questions to elicit family violence disclosure and understand the barriers to disclosure.

  • Participants will be confident to use the Recording template for identifying family violence.

  • Participants will know where to refer people who disclose family violence and have confidence in responding to disclosures.

  • Participants will be confident to use the Preliminary Assessment tool to determine the risk and safety for the victim by considering a range of victim and perpetrator characteristics that affect the likelihood and severity of future violence.
