Event description
CRADLE is turning five! To mark this anniversary, we're hosting a higher education research conference in October - CRADLE Conference 2020.

About this Event

To mark our fifth anniversary, Deakin University’s Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE) is hosting an online higher education research conference from 19 to 20 October 2020.

The conference aims to provide a focused forum for higher education research as a discipline. Cutting-edge conversations will centre around rigorous, high-quality conceptual and theoretical contributions exploring the future of higher education research in a postdigital age.

Our keynote speakers are Professor Monika Nerland (University of Oslo) and Associate Professor Alyssa Wise (New York University).

You can view our program here.

Registration options

There are two registration options for CRADLE Conference 2020:

  • Whole conference registration; and
  • Individual sessions.

All registrations are free.

Why register for the whole conference?

Registering for the whole conference provides you with access to all events, including research presentations and social events.

Please choose this option if you think you will attend at least three to four sessions at CRADLE Conference 2020. We strongly encourage attendance for at least two research presentation sessions if you’re selecting this option.

Please note, we have scheduled plenty of breaks between sessions and minimised presentation time to accommodate the online nature of the conference and reduce screen fatigue.

Why register for individual sessions?

Registrations for individual sessions allow you to register for any of our four main sessions:

  • Day One: Opening session (11.00 am - 12.00 pm, Monday 19 October) - the conference welcome from Prof. Liz Johnson (DVCE, Deakin University) and Prof. David Boud (Director, CRADLE); and the first keynote, 'The data-intensive university in a post-digital world: New directions in teaching and learning', by A/Prof. Alyssa Wise (NYU).
  • Day One: Panel session (4.45 - 6.00 pm, Monday 19 October) - 'What it means to be a university student in the post-digital age', with Prof. Simon Buckingham Shum (UTS), Prof. Helen Partridge (Deakin University), Prof. Julian Sefton-Green (Deakin University) (TBC), and Lasse Jensen (University of Copenhagen & Deakin University).
  • Day Two: Symposium (11.00 am - 12.00 pm, Tuesday 20 October) - 'Assessment in a post-digital world', with A/Prof. Phillip Dawson, A/Prof. Rola Ajjawi and Prof. Margaret Bearman (CRADLE) and discussant Prof. Michael Henderson (Monash University).
  • Day Two: Closing session (5.00 - 6.20 pm, Tuesday 20 October) - the second keynote, 'Reconfiguring relations between higher education and work: Knowledge practices and learning in the (post)digital era', by Prof. Monika Nerland (University of Oslo); and the launch of our latest CRADLE book and conference close.

You might like to register for an individual session if one or two of these sessions particularly appeals.
