Event description

Description

All DFSI staff are invited to attend our fourth policy forum for 2017. This event will offer insights from a firm whose focus is building innovative digital service delivery products for government.

It will be presented by Simon Goodrich, co-founder of digital design and innovation company Portable. Simon will outline one of Portable’s current projects, an online dispute resolution tool being developed to meet the needs of a series of government agencies, with a focus on the process of transforming blue sky thinking into reality.

Portable has been working to solve complex problems in the government sector, both in Australia and the US, for the past 10 years. It has worked particularly in the justice sector in Victoria, building the Online Family Violence Intervention Order, which has become a blueprint for government service design. Portable has also developed a day-of-court triage service to reduce waiting times and improve the experience of court users.

In 2016, Portable published ‘Hacking the Bureaucracy’, which puts together insights on how to facilitate internal government innovation from over 200 interviews with those working in the public sector.

Simon serves as the Australian Ambassador for the New York-based Webby Awards, known internationally as the Oscars for Online, and sits on the board of HISA (Australia’s digital health peak body) leading their innovation portfolio. He is an active mentor in the Melbourne University Accelerator Program, supporting innovative start-ups, and is an Adjunct Fellow at the Sir Zelman Cowan Centre at Victoria University, supporting innovation in the justice space. He is past National President of AIMIA, at the time the peak digital body in Australia.
