About this event

Students will be introduced to new counting systems such as binary and ternary. Students will learn to change between bases, add and subtract in bases other than 10, and challenge themselves to find a way to multiply and divide. By doing so, students should develop an appreciation for place value, in particular, develop a strong understanding of what it means to “carry” or “borrow” while completing the traditional addition and subtraction algorithms.

Mode: Online

Schedule: 1 x 1.5 hr session

Suitable for: High-achieving students in Years 5 - 6.

Prerequisites: Students should be comfortable with basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Required Equipment:

  • A device with access to the internet and Zoom
  • A printed copy of workbook (available on registration).

Note to teachers: This program is in high demand. So that we can allow as many students as possible to participate, we ask that if you wish to book more than 10 students you purchase a group ticket and have students participate via a single Zoom, streamed into the classroom, rather than have students logging on through individual devices.

As a school, if students have already participated in this program, please allow other schools the opportunity to enrol students first.
