Description

"When the imagination and will power are in conflict, are antagonistic, it is always the imagination which wins, without any exception.” Emile Coué

Like most people there are things I want to tick off my to-do list. For too long that list has included completing an on-line course I enrolled in several months ago. I started off with impressive gusto and now I find myself increasingly seduced by the couch and watching real-life crime. Like most therapists I really do try to walk my talk and I feel confused with myself when I swerve away from my intentions.

When I first thought about this Coue statement, I did a quick review of my attempts with will power – gym schedules, eating plans, timetabling for study and business development undertakings. I admit my will power wanes quickly and typically before desired results are achieved.

Similar assessments of others’ successes with will power - family, friends and clients - revealed a similar lack of attainment in achieving change when will power was the chosen approach.

So then … how do I engage the imagination to support change whether it’s with myself or with my clients?

In this workshop we will be exploring communication approaches for working with our clients in ways that engage the imagination. An intention of this workshop is for you as a Wellness Practitioner to develop skills to support your clients to achieve change with a freedom from the internal battles which will power typically imposes.

This stand-alone workshop is the second in the program Counselling Skills for Wellness Practitioners: Positive change through communication. The topics of this interactive training by Katina Gleeson will be:

Strengths-based practice
Solution-oriented therapy

These workshops are based on Katina’s knowledge and experience as a Mental Health Accredited Social Worker, counselling educator and psychotherapist about how to best support our clients to achieve the changes they yearn for. Katina has a powerful belief in people's ability to make positive changes in their lives. This workshop series will enhance your knowledge and skills to support your clients in their journeys of change.

Furthermore, this is a great opportunity to continue in your journey of change and to add to your toolkit of therapeutic knowledge and skills, while also better serving your clients and enhancing their success.
