Description

This group program will provide participants with the opportunity to meet other carers in a similar situation to themselves, and to learn new skills to better manage the emotional demands of being a carer of a family member with dementia.


Who is this program for?
For carers to learn strategies to improve their well being. This program does not focus on understanding the changes caused by dementia. This program is not suitable for professionals employed in the health or aged care sectors.


Topics covered over the 6 weeks include:

  • How increasing stress impacts on our well-being

  • Relaxation and stress reduction techniques

  • Recognising how our thinking can impact on how we feel

  • Strategies to challenge our unhelpful thinking

  • Making a commitment to schedule pleasant activities


The program is offered as a small group session where participants will be encouraged to share their experiences and be able to listen to and support others.

Please note: In order to join this program, participants will need to complete an assessment interview with a counsellor.

3 hours a week for 6 weeks and a follow up session

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Dementia Australia Car Park

Limited Car parking is available in the car park located off Glen Street, look for the reserved signs.

Street Car Parking:

There is often all day car parking located on Glen Street and Riversdale Road on one side of the street and 2 hour car parking on the other side. Please read the signs carefully.

Tram: No 70 or 75 Riversdale Road OR No 16 Glenferrie Road

Train: To Glenferrie Station (Belgrave/Lilydale Line) tram or 10 min walk south along Glenferrie Road. Stop at Riversdale Road

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
