Description

Join our Rangers as they take you on a tag-along 4WD tour of the South East Drains, with the opportunity to stay overnight at historic Cantara Homestead in the Coorong.

We will travel in convoy to Martin Washpool Conservation Park, visiting the southern end of the Morella Basin, the drain at Bonneys Camp and the causeway at the northern end of the basin, just before the water flows into Salt Creek.

You must provide your own 4WD vehicle and be experienced in driving in bush conditions.

A member of the South East Flows Restoration Project team will accompany us to tell us about on-ground works to assist salinity management in the Coorong Southern Lagoon, enhance flows to wetlands in the Upper South East and reduce drainage outflow at Kingston Beach.

We will stop about half way along the Morella Basin, overlooking the water, for a picnic lunch in the shade of the gum trees.

After lunch we will travel to Cantara Homestead in the Coorong National Park.

While at Cantara, we will be showing the original Storm Boy movie and you can take the time to check out the displays showing details of the history of Cantara and its restoration.

You will also have the opportunity for a Ranger guided sunset walk through the sand dunes to the ocean beach. This is a moderately difficult walk of approximately 3kms return.

You are welcome to stay overnight at Cantara. There will be no charge, but you will need to bring your own caravan, camper, tent or swag. Showers and toilets are available. Electricity is not available for the camping sites, but you may bring your own generator. Arrangements can be made to leave your caravan or camper at Cantara before we begin the tag-along tour.
