Event description
Summer is approaching and before long our homes will heat up. Learn how to stay cool without burning expensive energy.

About this Event

Join a series of knowledgeable presenters as they share their tips on how you can keep your home cooler this summer, without relying on expensive air conditioning.

Tim Darby and Shani Graham from Ecoburbia will bring their "tiny house" display to demonstrate how the sun acts to heat our homes during summer. Learn about passive design principles, the suns angles and how you can 'keep the sun out' to keep your home cooler this summer. Ecoburbia, in Beaconsfield, is Tim and Shani's urban community, microfarm and a living demonstration of what a sustainable sanctuary can look like.

Marina Grayden from Edu Veg will share her knowledge about garden design and its role in creating a cool sanctuary in summer . You will learn how to choose the correct plants to place in the right position to block hot easterly winds and the northern sunlight, while creating a beautiful space. To ensure your garden is resilient against the harsh Perth heat Marina will also discuss soil improvement, good watering practices and mulching.

Craig Donahue from Clean NRG will also discuss solar and battery systems as a renewable alternative to the grid, which provide a greener low carbon energy source for keeping cool in summer. Find out if this is a feasible option for you to install this summer.

We look forward to seeing you at this "cool" event!
