STARS LINE UP FOR THE CON

Six of the best singing stars in the Queensand Conservatorium will warm up a winter afternoon in the second Cool & Classic Concert for 2018 on Sunday, July 29th at 2pm at the Kenmore Uniting Church, 982 Moggill Road, Kenmore.

The programme will showcase a range of favourite songs from opera (think Mozart, Gounod, Donizette, Puccini etc) and musical theatre (The Merry Widow, Camelot, Carousel, West Side Story, Showboat and more).

Just two of the quality singers featured will be bass singer Henry Pinder and soprano Cassandra Wright. Henry started in the children’s chorus of Opera Queensland at the age of 9, then went to Vienna and performed for several years with the Vienna Boys’ Choir before coming back to Brisbane to study at the Conservatorium. He is in his final year of an Advanced Musical Performance degree, while singing again with Opera Queensland and performing arias and oratorios in many local productions in the Con and the community.

Cassandra is a versatile soprano in her Honours year, having won several University awards along the way and performed roles in many Con operas, as well as with the 7 sopranos in events such as Opera in the Gardens. In 2016 she won the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition Awards and the Audience Choice. In 2017, Cassandra won the Lieder and Sacred sections at the Queensland Vocal Competition and was awarded the Vocal Aggregate and Most Pleasing Voice at the North Queensland Eisteddfod in 2018. This year she received the Joan Arnold & Bettine McCaughan Memorial Encouragement Award in the Melbourne Liederfest Competition.

Others of the talented group will be Sarah Winn, Phillip Costovski, Xenia Puskarz Thomas, and Sheridan Hughes, with a variety of accolades and performing experience, ready to move on in their musical careers.

As always, there is a chance to meet and talk to these vibrant young people over a delicious afternoon tea.

Ring Rosemary 3378 4436 for more details. Tickets available here now.
