Event description
We invite health professionals and community members to learn about recent research improving continence management in the disability sector

About this Event

Continence is a common problem for people with a disability and impacts independence, quality of life and cost of care. Each year the Insurance Commission of Western Australia spends millions on toileting care and support for its clients injured in motor vehicle crashes.

Recently completed research by Brightwater Care Group (funded by the Insurance Commission) demonstrated that the use of assistive devices, along with comprehensive continence assessment and a tailored management plan, can increase independence, and reduce intervention from carers to support a person with an acquired brain injury.

In the workshop Continence Foundation of Australia (WA Branch) will detail the importance of continence assessment and management in providing client-centred care to promote well-being of clients with a disability.

Who should attend?

  • health and disability workers
  • continence professionals
  • brain and spinal cord injury researchers
  • members of the community

The workshop will start at 10am and conclude at 12pm. Lunch will follow and include an opportunity for discussion, and networking, with the Brightwater research team and Continence Foundation of Australia (WA Branch).
