Event description

Description

Developing a future vision for a business requires a long term strategy. This is an even more complex task in a family business where these discussions must cross generations, if the business is to remain a family business. Motivation, trust – all these facets become crucial in the conversation if the business is to successfully forge a long term continuity, not just as a business, but as a family business.

In the 2017 UWA-FBA Annual Contemporary Issues in Family Business presentation, we will hear from the Bailey’s family, a well-know Western Australian family with the prosperous Bailey’s Fertiliser business. Both the founding and next generation family members will discuss how they are working towards the future together to maintain and grow the family business.

The Baileys are a well-known Western Australian family. The Bailey family has been involved in the horticultural industry since 1926. From their first home base in Spearwood, they started out supplying market gardeners, flower producers and orchardists with quality products. As product demand in agricultural and horticultural trades changed, Baileys became the leader in development of specialist products for both the turf industry and domestic market. Four generations of the Bailey family have been involved in getting the best out of WA's sandy soils. Today, Baileys manufactures a variety of quality, environmentally conscious and widely recommended fertilisers and growing media.
