Contemplative Prayer using Lectio Poetica
Overview
Lectio Divina (Latin for “divine reading”) is a prayerful and reflective way to read the Bible. Rather than reading for an intellectual understanding of the text, it’s a practice that encourages the reader to go slowly, to savour the words on the page, and to engage with God in prayerful reflection.
A similar method of contemplative prayer can be used when reading poetry or written prayers. Here we seek to allow our heart and imagination to engage with the text and to ask God what He might have to say to us. As with any spiritual practice it is a time to slow down, be still, and trust in the loving gaze of God as he moves and leads.
This session is suitable for those familiar with contemplative prayer / lectio divina as well as those who are new or exploring contemplative practice.
The session will begin with a time together where we will settle into the quiet with some reflective music. This will be followed by 30-40 minutes on your own to explore the practice of lectio poetica. To finish, we will come back together as a group to share what we have noticed during our time of reflection.
The session will be conducted via Zoom.
