We invite service providers, consumers and policy makers from across the drug and alcohol, dual diagnosis and community health sectors to come together for our CARE Ideas Exchange.

This opportunity will allow attendees to network with like-minded people, share ideas for innovation and explore options for ongoing collaboration.

PROGRAM & SPEAKERS

Power and Passion: Why Your Experience Matters and How to Drive Change in the AOD Service Sector'
Key Note Speaker: Jacqui Gibson-Roos
Jacqui is passionately committed to culture change through consumer engagement and partnerships in all health systems including alcohol and drugs. With a background in the fields of heath and education combined with 17 years of experience of working in the healthcare system, Jacqui has gained a meaningful insight into how consumers can make systemic changes.
This presentation will be a practical guide to how to harness the passion of consumers into meaningful partnerships to make the AOD system better for all. It will cover: what does real consumer engagement look like, how to sustain these partnerships and what are the drivers for cultural change in the AOD sector.

Choose one of these three 'Good practice in consumer participation' breakout sessions:

OPTION 1: 'High quality care in the 21st Century' by Professor Jane Burns, Professor of Innovation and Industry at the University of Sydney
Professor Burns will discuss the role of digital technologies in the context of person led customized care. Increasingly people are demanding high quality care and choice. Other sectors - retail, banking, entertainment - have embraced the role of technologies in people’s lives and adapted and changed their services to meet their needs. This presentation will talk about codesign, technologies, digital health and the exiting next steps in mental health reform.

OPTION 2: 'Telling consumer stories; the risks and rewards' by Jeff Gavin, APSU Manager plus Consumers
Research has demonstrated how recovering individuals need narratives that make sense of past drug use, and enable construction of future non-addict identities. But what happens when the storyteller steps outside the safe havens of 12-step meetings and therapy groups? You will have the opportunity to discuss this and other related topics with members of APSU’s Speaker Bureau who tell their stories to a wide range of audiences. It’s your opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of how storytelling works, and why it is so important in the recovery process.

OPTION 3: 'Fostering family participation in the AOD sector' workshop by Edita Kennedy, APSU Project Worker plus a Family Member

'Creating valuable and sustainable networks' Presentation by networking expert

'Advocating for Change from Within' by Wayne Wright, Manager of Southern Dual Diagnosis Service
Being able to gain an understanding of the system that you work is an important step in understanding how change can be achieved. Upon understanding the system it is important to build up networks of likeminded individuals and then to start planning as a group. The planning process is as important as the implementation stage as you need to be influencing and advocating at appropriate opportunities and this is often best achieved by addressing some of the service system issues.

'How to set up a consumer participation network in your own area' Group Breakout Session

This event is fully catered with a sit down buffet lunch.

You will participate in networking & energiser activities throughout the day and receive valuable resources to take away with you.

What are my transport and parking options for getting to the venue?
By Tram
Tram stop 7 (Elizabeth Street / Queen Victoria Market) is a 1 minute walk from ibis Melbourne Hotel & Apartments and can be accessed via tram route 19 (North Coburg to Flinders Street Station), route 57 (West Maribyrnong to Flinders Street Station), or route 59 (Airport West to Flinders Street Stration).

By Train
ibis Melbourne Hotel & Apartments is a 600m walk (or tram ride) from Melbourne Central Station along Elizabeth Street.

Payment Method
We only accept payments via credit card. If your organisation can not process credit card payments we suggest that you pay for the ticket using a personal credit card. When you have processed your registration you will receive an email that will have a Tax Invoice attached. This can be used to request reimbursement from your organisation.

Why is there a fee?
The event has a fee to help cover the cost of catering and to secure your seat.

What is a Regional Bursary and how do I qualify?
A Regional Bursary is a $50 discount on your accommodation. You may apply for this if you work and live in a regional area and are seeking overnight accommodation in Melbourne the night prior to the event on Wednesday 3rd May 2017.

To qualify, you need to meet all of the criteria:

1. Live and work a minimum distance of 100km from the event venue; and

2. Provide the event organisers with proof of residence; and

3. Provide the event organisers with a copy of their paid accommodation receipt. Reimbursement of $50 will be paid at the end of the event.

What's the refund policy?
APSU and TaskForce reserve the right to cancel the event due to any unforeseen circumstance. A full refund will be given, should this occur.
Cancellation by a participant less than 5 business days prior to this scheduled event will not result in a refund.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No. We will have your name and details with us at the event.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
Information will be emailed prior to the training, it is important we have the correct contact details.
