The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) is consulting nationally to better understand the safety and quality issues experienced by patients in primary health care.

The information gathered at these consultative workshops will be used to develop the National Primary Health Care Safety and Quality Standards.

Your involvement in these workshops is essential to developing standards that are of value to the sector, focus on safety and quality outcomes and are patient-centred.

The workshop

Workshops will ask participants to discuss the safety and quality issues for patients in primary health care, and what needs to be in place to provide safe and high quality care.

The workshop will run for 2 hrs with light catering provided.

Who should attend?

Anyone involved in the delivery of primary health care services including, but not limited to primary health care providers, practice managers, policy makers and relevant health service organisations.

A brief agenda

  1. Welcome and introduction - Project background and scope

  2. What are the safety and quality issues patients face when accessing primary health care?

  3. What needs to be in place for primary health care services to deliver safe and high quality care to patients?

  4. Data reporting and collection
    - What safety and quality measures are primary health care services monitoring?
    - How is this data collected?
    - How often?
    -What data do you think should be collected and measured?

  5. Accreditation model - What should accreditation of primary care services look like?
