Event description

Description

You are invited to discuss the draft Australia’s Strategy for Nature 2018-2030 (Australia’s draft revised Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Inventory) with the Department of the Environment and Energy at a consultative forum in Canberra. It will be held on Tuesday 6 March 2018, 2-5pm at ThinkPlace Canberra, 50 Blackall St Barton.

This will be a forum with peak national bodies organised by the Department, on behalf of the Australian Government. State and territory governments are also running consultation processes on the draft Strategy. The intention of this forum is to have a conversation about the draft Strategy, learn more about the journey to this point, have your questions answered and provide your views.

The draft Strategy has been developed by the Biodiversity Working Group, comprising environment officials from all jurisdictions and the Australian Local Government Association, following the completion of the review of Australia’s Biodiversity Conservation Strategy 2010-2030 in 2016. The draft has been developed to improve its ability to drive change and better align with Australia's international biodiversity commitments. At a practical level, it has been condensed and uses plain English to improve engagement with a a wider audience. In addition, the draft Strategy includes a stronger focus on biodiversity in urban and production landscapes, marine and aquatic environments, sustainable use and the value of nature to human health.
