Guest speaker: Miranda Gibson

(pictured above with Bob Brown after ending her 449 day tree-sit)

prominent Tasmanian forest campaigner and popular social media activist

“What was it like? That first moment you set foot on the ground again?” Many people have asked me this over the past few weeks, since ending my 449 day tree sit on March 7th. And to be honest, I can’t remember.  I can’t remember what was going through my mind as I made that quiet descent – twirling around as the rope spun, watching the forest floor slowly get closer and closer.”
- Miranda Gibson from her blog at ‘The Observertree

Miranda Gibson recently spent over 14 months at the top of a tree defending Tasmania's ancient forests. Using a unique combination of direct action, markets campaigning and social media activism, Miranda helped bring international attention to the plight of the forests, without setting foot on the ground for over a year. Miranda's inspirational story brings to life her experience of living in the upper canopy of a remote old growth forest. From this unique perspective Miranda shares her insights into the current debate around forest conservation in Australia.
