Connections that Matter – Social Cohesion Workshop (Sports and Recreation)
Overview
The south-east of Melbourne is one of the most diverse communities in Australia, where everyone is welcome to live together in peace and safety even when times are challenging. We are seeking your interest in participating in a facilitated workshop that is an opportunity to share understandings of what social cohesion means in the local community and the roles we can all play.
Some of our community connections have experienced a number of shocks and stresses which have put pressure on individuals, families and the broader society. While our communities remain resilient, ongoing challenges (such as the cost of living and global conflict) place very real and sustained pressure on the social fabric that holds us together.
In response to the concerns that have been heard, and these shocks and stresses, the three Councils of Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia in South-East Melbourne are working with the Australian Government’s Office for Social Cohesion, the Municipal Association of Victoria and the Victorian Multicultural Commission to develop a social cohesion initiative that can help build understanding, grow connections and conversations, and protect social cohesion in the local community and region.
Tania Miletic has been appointed the Independent Intercultural Dialogue Facilitator. Tania brings twenty years’ experience as a facilitator and will be facilitating Connections That Matter Workshops over the coming weeks and months.
The workshops are a facilitated, safe space to help define what social cohesion means for our community today – and the role each of us plays in shaping a stronger, fairer future. Every voice matters, and together we can turn our shared visions into reality.
Participation is limited to residents in the south-east of Melbourne. Please register as early as possible as participant numbers are limited. Should the event be sold out, please email tmiletic@unimelb.edu.au
