Event description

Description

Post-trade analysis, sometimes called post-seasonal analysis, is a cornerstone activity in the merchandise planning and buying cycle. Depending on how you see it, post-trade analysis is either at the end of the current season’s cycle or the beginning of the new cycle where next season’s range is planned. As Niels Bohr very appropriately said, it is very difficult to predict what the future holds, so when it comes to planning the following season or year’s trade, we want to give ourselves every chance. Post-trade analysis is that critical step of teasing apart the merchandise performance so planners are in a well-informed position to make sensible and logical planning decisions.

Post-trade analysis is made up of three distinctive phases:

  • Collecting data

  • Analysing data

  • Presenting information

This workshop covers these steps in detail, and emphasises that the process is not entirely data driven. Firstly the data only shows what happened, it does not necessarily show what could have been. To answer that question, the planner is reliant on the input from others; store managers, customers, suppliers and a detailed qualitative analysis of the company and operating environment. Collaboration is critical in the overall process. It is always critical to keep a balanced view on what the data is saying. For this reason, most companies will be conducting planning at various levels simultaneously - so called Top Down and Bottom Up planning.

Planners are required to present their findings logically so all involved in the planning process from the CEO down, are well informed and able to take the most appropriate actions.

Target Audience: Retail Buyers, Merchandise Planners, Product Managers, Business Owners
