Compassionate Community - Victoria Point & Coochiemudlo Island Pilot Project
There will be a number of forums and events in 2022 that will explore the needs of these two communities and how and who might be part of establishing a Compassionate Community. Choose one of these February events to:
HEAR: About what is a Compassionate Community ~ a public health approach to palliative care, end of life care & bereavement
SHARE: Your experiences with care-giving, dying, death and grief & loss and what our community does well; and what can be improved for persons facing end of life, their carers and for our bereaved
LET US KNOW: If you are interested (want to be kept informed), supportive (want to provide some form of support & input); and/or involved (want to be frequently consulted and given more opportunity to provide in-depth feedback)
Background: Redland District Committee on the Ageing (RDCOTA) has been awarded a 2021-2022 Redland City Council - Community Grant and will be delivering a Compassionate Communities—Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island Pilot Project .
This project will target Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island communities, and over a 10-month period will explore and engage these two local communities to see what their appetite is to become Redland’s first Compassionate Community. RDCOTA has engaged the consultancy services of Jacqui Williams from End of Life Transitions as the Project Lead, and it is envisaged that there will be offered considerable opportunities for local, neighbouring and state-wide organisations to engage actively as part of this project.
So what is a Compassionate Community?
It is a whole of community social approach to supporting persons living with a life-limiting condition, particularly those at the end-of-life; their families/support persons and carers; and those who have, or are experiencing grief and bereavement. A Compassionate Community includes engagement with partners such as local Council, government and non-government organisations, health and social services professionals and faith-based & other organisations, cultural groups, workplaces and schools.
What geographical area is this Pilot Project targeting ?
RDCOTA’s pilot Project will focus on the Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island communities in South-East Queensland, Australia.
Who is welcome to be part of this Project?
With a particular focus on those residing or working in the Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island communities, we welcome participation from:

- Their carers / support persons
