Event description

Description

Poverty speaks to a child. It tells them, "You don't matter; you are nothing. Life will always be this way". But more powerful than the lies of poverty are the hope of Jesus, the care of their local church and the encouragement of a sponsor.

This is where you come in.

Advocates

You know Compassion child sponsorship works so why not tell others about it too? As a passionate child sponsor or supporter, you are the perfect person to be a Compassion advocate.

How you advocate is limited only by your interests and talents, but generally people speak up in at least one of three ways:

  • Receiving Child Profiles, and utilising their networks - including social media - to find the child a sponsor.
  • Volunteering at events that promote child sponsorship. From church services, to fairs and music festivals, we need people to help sign up sponsors after the event.
  • Using your unique gifts to raise awareness and funds. Hosting meals and asking people to sponsor, selling handmade items, producing music or art to raise awareness…

Church Partnership Coordinators

As the Church Partnership Coordinator nominated to represent your church we want to increase your understanding of Compassion’s ministry to children and a hope more powerful than poverty.

This workshop will further equip you to build your church's partnership and inspire the congregation to speak up on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. As the representative for your church you will be Compassion's first point of contact for future presentations and children needing a sponsor within your partnership region. You will be the catalyst for Compassion Sunday's, church field trips, and engaging the congregation in letter writing.

Whether you are training to be an Advocate or a Church Partnership Coordinator, this workshop will give you the tools to speak up on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves, and will increase your understanding of Compassion’s ministry to children. You will leave fully equipped as a Compassion Advocate or CPC. If you are interested I encourage you to come along and maybe even bring a friend. Whatever way you choose to promote Compassion, you’ll be inspired and empowered to make a difference.

Dinner and refreshments provided, RSVP is essential.

FAQs

Q. What can you bring to the event?

A. A Police Clearance valid in the last 6 months, and your WWC card. If you do not have either, that's ok! Compassion will provide the required forms after registration. We will do the rest.

Q. What does it cost to be an advocate or Church Partnership Coordinator?

A. While there is no financial cost for the training, as a CPC there will be an expectation that you would take on the responsibility for your church in liasing with Compassion staff and seeing your churches partnership continue to grow.

A. For advocates, we ask that you commit to getting at least one child sponsored, fundraise at least once, or volunteer at an event at least once per year in order to remain an active member of our team.
