Event description

Description

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is for Allied Health and Education University Students only.

Communication can be hard for some children; they might have difficulties understanding speech or speaking clearly.

A range of augmentative and alternative communication methods (also known as AAC) have been developed to help these children communicate at home, in school, or out in their community.

This program will teach you how to support AAC learning.

We know that children who are learning to use AAC benefit from talking with people who can use their system.

In this program, you will learn about:

  • The purpose of children's communication and examples of practical words

  • Useful AAC systems such as Proloquo2go™ and LAMP™

  • Strategies to be a successful communication partner to help children achieve positive language outcomes

  • Language modelling techniques

  • Activities in which to model AAC and what words to model
