ABOUT THIS SESSION:

Wikipedia is one of the most effective outreach platforms that you can use. It is the first google hit form most queries, and many articles get millions of reads per year. Academics and Wikipedia need each other to make sure that complex topics are accurately and thoroughly covered. Contributing to Wikipedia it is a simple and rewarding way to be a part of the largest, most widely read, open-access encyclopaedia in history. This workshop will introduce why and how to edit, as well explain the similarities and differences with other forms of academic writing.

WORKSHOP FACILITATOR:

Dr Thomas Shafee is an evolutionary biochemist at AgriBio and LIMS. He is also a keen contributor to Wikipedia, focusing on improving diagrams and citations for scientific topics. He organises Wikipedia-Academia integration as an editor for PLOS Genetics and editor-in-chief of WikiJournal of Science.
