Description

11.15 am: Communicating your work – speaking to the media

Whether you want participants for a study, funding for your research or promotion of your topic, you’ll need to get in front of the media. Don’t worry – it’s not scary! We’ll demystify speaking to the media and share some tips and hints.

12:00 pm: hands-on session

Learn what a radio, tv or newspaper journalist wants from you and some tips on how to give them what they want, while still getting what YOU need.

1:00 pm Lunch break

2:00 pm: Why use twitter?

Twitter now has three main groups of users: media, politicians and academics/researchers – you want to get in front of all three. This micro-publishing platform is the easiest way to find your tribe and get your work known.

3:00 pm: hands on session

Bring a headshot, a 140 character biography and a laptop/iPad and we’ll set up your twitter account and get you started.

4:00 pm conclusion of session and wrap-up

We finish up with a round-up of what you should have learned, and where to go from here!

4.30pm day concludes.

All participants will need a headshot, a biography of around 150 words and a CV. Please bring a laptop or iPad to each session.

This session will be facilitated by Linda Drummond.
