CPEC is running three training sessions tailored towards Kindergarten and Daycare staff. The team presenting this information includes a physiotherapist, speech pathologist and occupational therapist.
PART 2: Communicating in Kindergarten and Daycare (ONLINE – Tuesday 10 March 2026 4-6pm)
Cost: $35
This session is really useful for those working with children whose speech is unclear or who use an alternative communication method to speech or use other types of communication as well as speech.
This session will cover topics such as:
- Ways to support children whose speech is difficult to understand
- Introduction to AAC (augmentative and alternative communication)
- Supporting children who have complex communication needs to use a range of ways (multimodal) to communicate
- Practical ideas for implementing AAC in the pre-school environment
- Practical ideas for supporting interactions for children who have complex communication needs and their peers in the pre-school environment
PART 3: OPTIONAL PRACTICAL COMPONENT - AAC Kindergarten & Daycare Training (FACE TO FACE – Friday 20 March 3 - 5pm)
Cost: $35
This practical component of the training will be held at CPEC, Glen Waverley, and is an opportunity to get hands-on experience using PODD communication books and PODD pagesets on speech generating devices.
To join Part 3, you will be required to complete Part 2 of the training to ensure you have the necessary foundational knowledge.
This training will be tailored towards staff supporting children who use PODD communication systems (books and/or devices) in the pre-school setting.
Feedback from previous years indicates that these sessions are invaluable for people assisting and educating a child with a physical disability and/or complex communication need.
