The artist PATRICIA WILSON-ADAMS

Patricia was brought up on an isolated sheep property in the New England region of New South Wales and it is this environment that has informed her work throughout her life. She attended the National Art School, Sydney and gained an MFA from the College of Fine Art, University of New South Wales.

She is not only known as an artist but has had a long career as an educator beginning with TAFE, then the Newcastle College of Advanced Education which amalgamated with The University of Newcastle. She was a founding member of Newcastle Printmakers Workshop.

Patricia Wilson-Adams began intensive work in etching as a student at Atelier 17 in Paris and has also worked as an artist-in-residence in many parts of the world. She has exhibited both prints and sculpture in many major regional galleries and has been represented in many prize exhibitions. The major survey exhibition, stain me with the intensity of black, at the Newcastle Art Gallery in 2018 was well received and at present she is exhibiting in Let all the birds fly: the hybrid print at Maitland Region Art Gallery.

Her work focuses on cultural landscapes, land usage and environmental issues and she could best be described as being a polyvalent artist. She addresses aspects of Post Minimalism, uses metaphor and enjoys the materiality of her work and often references literature. She works in sculpture, installation, print media and letterpress.
