How brain derived neurotrophic factors (BDNF) influences, not only cognitive dissonance, but many chronic physiological factors.
How low BDNF is associated with depression and anxiety, a tendency for alcohol dependancy, neurodegenerative diseases with neuronal loss, such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes mellitus and Huntington’s disease.
That BDNF is a growth factor, where multiple receptors, from the hippocampus to intestines are impacted. BDNF binds to its high
affinity receptor TrkB (tyrosine kinase B) and activates signal transduction cascades, while the downstream factor IGF-I, a known modulator of anxiety. is down-regulated. There is a decrease in the amount of muscle bulk and strength, an increase in the amount of adipose tissue in the body (especially around the waist) and impaired concentration and memory from BDNF/IGF-1 dysregulation.
