Event description
Join us in the Coffs Story Circle, a space to come together for an afternoon of story telling, story listening and connection

About this Event

Coffs Story Circle : Storytelling is a way to feel and be connected. Telling stories reminds us of our shared humanity. Being heard and listened to helps us to remember that we matter, and that our lives and experiences matter. Storytelling allows us to connect and share not only our experiences, but also our wisdom, thoughts and context. Telling a story which has impacted us, or is important to us in some way, offers us the simple pleasure of sharing from within, as well as allowing us to practice the art of listening as others share their stories.

Join us in the Coffs Story Circle, a space to come together for an afternoon of story telling, story listening and connection. We will offer some prompts that will be communicated with you in advance. Storytellers can use these or not. Each person in the circle will have around 5-7 minutes to tell their story. The circles will be limited to 8 participants (keeping with COVID rules) and so everyone in the circle can share.

Afternoon tea will be provided- there will be a donation bowl for a small optional donation to cover the costs of this.

Sunday 13 December 3pm

Debbie and Sue are both regular listeners of The Moth podcast and thought a story circle in Coffs Harbour would be something they would like to be part of. If you’re not familiar with The Moth, it’s a storytelling podcast where people tell true personal stories, of around 5 minutes, loosely centered around a theme.

Secure your place here by booking a ticket- numbers are limited to 8 per session.

We will email you a couple of weeks before the day with a selection of story prompts.

Here are some helpful storytelling tips from The Moth: • A good story can be about something simple - it does not have to be a life changing event

• Have fun and try to relax- there will be no judgement. We are all learning and trying something new

• Start with a good first line, something to grab our attention

• Stories follow a pattern - there is a clear beginning, middle or an arc/peak/highlight, and an end

• Stories are a narrative rather than a speech, presentation or an opinion piece

• Tell us - What did you stand to gain or lose? Why is what happens in the story important to you?

• Create pictures for the listener - describe people and places

• Stories should help the listener get to know you, people and places better

• Stories are about feelings - we want to know how you felt and how that evolved

We hope to hear your story in the Coffs Story Circle.
