Event description

Description

Kids Like Us and the Dyslexia, dyscalculia, & LD parents support network Bayside offer an opportunity for parents and carers of twice-exceptional (2e) young people to get together to chat about anything and everything 2e.

Whether you're just starting your journey into 2e, or are an old hat with wisdom to share, you're welcome here.

These events are free of charge, and signing up to an event is simply so we know how much tea and coffee to bring in!

This morning will see us holding our Christmas Coffee, Cake & Chat Party, so feel free to bring a healthy dose of seasonal cheer!

*SPECIAL SCREENING*

At this Coffee, Cake, & Chat, we'll be screening The Big Picture!

A dyslexic high school student pursues admission to a leading college – a challenge for a boy who didn’t learn to read until 4th grade. Additional accounts of the dyslexic experience from children, experts, and iconic leaders at the top of their fields, help us to understand that dyslexia, a persistent problem with learning to read, can be as great a gift as it sometimes is an obstacle.

For the film's trailer, follow this link: https://youtu.be/KBsYF9dSMCc

For an article on the film, see 'How Robert Redford's family are changing our thinking about dyslexia'. At 10, Dylan Redford, grandson of Robert, could barely read or write. His story features in a revealing and touching documentary about the condition made by his father, James. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/oct/05/dylan-redford-dyslexia-big-picture?CMP=share_btn_fb
