Description

CoderDojo is a club for young people aged 7-17 where they can learn coding with help from volunteers.

If you’re interested in learning code, developing websites, apps, programs, games or exploring technology in an informal, safe, and creative environment, this club is for you!



WHEN:
Fortnightly Thursdays during school terms from 4.30pm to 6pm.

TERM 3 DATES:
1. Thursday 20 July, 4.30pm to 6pm.
2. Thursday 3 August, 4.30pm to 6pm.
3. Thursday 17 August, 4.30pm to 6pm.
4. Thursday 31 August, 4.30pm to 6pm.
5. Thursday 14 September, 4.30pm to 6pm.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • This ticket registers you for EVERY SESSION in TERM 3.

  • Parents/Guardians must accompany all Ninjas to and from the Dojo session and must remain within the library premises for the duration of the Dojo session. If a ninja is 13 and under, they must be accompanied by a parent during the session.

  • CoderDojo Carlton is a club not a classroom. The focus is on self-led learning with our volunteer mentors offering assistance.

  • Please be aware, if you miss TWO DOJO sessions without giving us adequate notice, your term booking will be removed to give another eager Ninja an opportunity to attend.

  • Please book Ninjas to one of the rooms only.

  • Most of all, Be Cool XD

FAQs

What is CoderDojo?

CoderDojo is a worldwide movement of free, volunteer-led, community-based programming clubs for young people. Anyone aged seven to seventeen can visit a Dojo where they can learn to code, build a website, create an app or a game, and explore technology in an informal, creative, and social environment. Do I need to come with a parent?

If you are 13 and under, you must be accompanied by a parent during the session.

What is going to be covered in a typical dojo session?

In our Dojo sessions we usually start with scratch and progress into more advanced topics such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python. You will have as well a chance to play with some of our hardware such as mBots, Rassberry Pis, Arduinos. Please indicate your area of interest and one of our experienced volunteers might be able to guide you.

Why are there two sessions?

One session is held in a room with 15 desktop computers whereas the other session is held in the Art Room where there is no equipment provided. You do need to bring your laptop if you are attending the session in the Art Room. We offer two sessions as we would like more ninjas to participate in our coding club.

Do I need to bring anything?

You do need to bring a laptop if you are attending a session in the Art Room.

Do I need any prior knowledge?

No prior knowledge is required only curiousity :)

Why do we now have term bookings? Why will my registration be removed if I miss two sessions?

This change in policy is due to an issue where participants have registered for our Dojo but have then not attended with no attempt to contact our Dojo which also means that a space has been taken from another eager Ninja. We understand unexpected things happen (someone falls sick, the car won't start, your unicorn will not fly :) ) but in order to stop this issue, we are implementing this policy in which your registration for this term will be removed if you miss two session without giving us adequate notice. If you are removed, you will still be able to re-register for the following terms.
