This fun packed, interactive introductory course to coding for beginners uses visual programming language (or block coding) to code and control a Sphero robotic ball. Participants will engage in various coding activities, apply math and logic, as well as apply physics, computer science and engineering concepts learnt along the way. The contents covered in this school holiday program include the following:
Day 1 - Introduction to coding with blocks (VPL). Apply coding skills to program the robot to execute various functions immediately and progressing to activities related to physics of time, speed and distance. Learning areas include spacial awareness, direction, navigation, logic, math, geometry, computer science and physics.
Day 2 - Coding activities and games linked to learnt concepts following by the Race Course Challenge (participants design, build and race their robots to complete the race course). Learning areas include math, logic, direction, navigation, physics, computer science and engineering concepts.
There are two sessions available. Each session runs for 3 hours per day over two days on Tuesday 10 January and Wednesday 11 January 2017. These two sessions are as follows:
1. Morning Session between 9AM to 12PM on 10 and 11 January 2017.
2. Afternoon Session between 2PM to 5PM on 10 and 11 January 2017.
Each participant will be assigned an individual robot to use for the duration of the workshops.
All learning materials are included.
There will be a short break half way through each day. A juice box, some biscuits and fruit will be provided.
Workshops are kept to small groups to ensure a focused learning environment. Places are limited to 15 participants per workshop.
Parents are more than welcomed to stay and/or participate with their children.
