Description

With the introduction of the Digital Technologies Curriculum in Australian schools, it is important for the children to learn basic computer science skills, computational thinking skills, algorithm developing skills and basic coding skills. This course is designed to build these skills.These skills could assist them in understanding and implementing practical tasks in other subject areas such as Mathematics, Science, Languages, Arts and History. The main aim of this course to make the students understand the idea of being the Creators of the Technology resources and not just being the consumers of the technology. In this course, each session includes conceptual understanding followed by hands on practice of coding in Scratch.


Learning Objectives:

After completing this course, Students will be able to:

Understand basic Computer Science concepts

  • Understand basic computer programming concepts

  • Create first programs in fun way using drag and drop coding in Scratch, a visual programming language

  • Build games and animations to share with family and friends

  • Start to build computational thinking skills, basic algorithm developing skills and systematic problem solving skills

This course is aligned with Australian National Digital Technologies Curriculum and Western Australian Digital Technologies Curriulum for Year 3 to Year 6 (ACTDIP010, ACTDIP011, ACTDIP019, ACTDIP020)

Equipment Required

  • Bring a laptop computer

  • Access to email address (student’s or use Parents’), if you do not have email address, please make one before coming to the first session.

  • Your passion to learn coding and Computer Science


Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of basic computer use (familiarity with Windows or Mac, creating folders, locating files/data)

  • Basic typing skills

  • Basic software usage skills such as MS Word/notepad and saving work in a folder

  • Basic internet browsing skills such as using browser and entering web address etc


Timings, Cost and Policies

  • Please note that the cost is for whole course which consist of 8 weekly 2 hours sessions on Saturdays from 9am to 11am

  • Each session consists of 90 minutes of teaching and 15 minutes for question and answers.

  • First 5 and last 10 minutes will be used for class setup.

  • All fee is to be paid at the time of registeration

  • If you cancel 7 days prior to the start of the course, you will get a full refund. However, no refund option is available for individual sessions.

  • Please advise us if you have any special needs by contacting us on the email address provided.

  • For all children under 12, Parents or Guardians’ supervision is required. Parents and Guardians must remain present in the waiting area during the session.

  • Students are expected to be respectful to fellow students and may involve in-session group work. There is no home-work involved, however students are welcome to explore and create as they may wish.

  • There is no make up session available for the missed classes. However if child is sick and has medical certificate. We will put extra effort on him to keep with the class.
