Overview

Co-producing adapted CBT videos for young people with DLD to improve accessibility and understanding of mental health support.

Join us for our first members-only seminar for 2026!

We have the pleasure of learning from Isabella Metcalfe and A/Prof Sarah Griffiths from University College London about their work on CBT psychoeducation for youth with DLD. See a summary of the presentation, below:

Young people with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) are at increased risk of mental health difficulties but often face barriers to accessing traditional talking therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), due to factors such as complex language and reliance on written content. Co-production offers a way to create more accessible interventions by involving those with lived experience as well as practitioners. And yet, co-production with young people with DLD remains rare. We will describe the 5-stage process of co-producing a set of adapted psychoeducational videos for anxiety and depression, taken from CBT self-help manuals used in schools. We will then present the findings of a pilot study comparing understanding and recall of these adapted videos with a set of unadapted videos, in groups of adults and primary school students. Challenges, implications, and next steps, will be discussed.

This event is scheduled Monday 2nd February, 4-5pm AWST (GMT+8).

The seminar will be hosted via Microsoft Teams. We will be in touch closer to the date with a link to the seminar.

We hope to see you there!
