Clinical Society: Joint Solutions (Tweed Valley)
Event Information
About this Event
Overview
Nearly one in five Australians has arthritis and most of them have osteoarthritis (OA), which affects more than a quarter of all people over 65.
In 2007, Australian health system expenditure for OA was $2 billion.
As the population ages and the prevalence of obesity and joint injury increases, OA will place an increasing burden on individuals, health systems and the community.
Come along to this interactive event which brings together GPs, specialists, nurses, allied health professionals and Local Health District staff to:
- Learn about best practice treatment for the management of OA in hip and knees.
- Network and share experiences with others.
Special Guest
Dr Sateesh Shankaranyah, Rheumatologist, will be in attendance to discuss DMARDS.
Learning Outcomes
By attending this workshop, participants will have increased their confidence, knowledge and skills to enable them to:
- Utilise current RACGP guidelines to initiate assessment and management of patients with OA knee and hip in their practice.
- Dispel myths associated with OA management.
- Refer appropriately to local specialists for consideration of biologic DMARDS.
- Monitor patients using biological DMARDS, including being aware of potential complications from their use.
