Description

Are you concerned about the impact of climate change on the Australian community? Do you want to increase your ability to act?

We are pleased to offer health professionals the opportunity to attend a one day Climate-Health Champions workshop in Cairns.

We're after people who are passionate about change, willing to develop skills, and want to be part of leading an effective movement for climate action.

9.00 Climate Literacy and CAHA

  • Climate change the basics - the basics

  • Climate change and health - the basics

  • CAHA – story so far: the framework, OCOH, GGHH, successes, milestones, agenda

  • Discussion – what did you already know and what was new? What surprised you?

  • Success story the HCAP

10.30 Morning tea

10.45 Campaigning and Organising

  • We know what the problem is, we know how to fix it. How do we get it fixed? 

  • Essential questions a campaign must know the answers to

  • Basic campaign outline (distributed pre-training) recap

  • What tactics help us achieve our goals?

12.15 Lunch

13.00 Media training

  • Talking to the media

  • Drafting media talking points, drawing on:

  • Key messages

  • Framing

  • Personal story

  • Media

  • Exercises

14.30 Afternoon tea

14.45 Advocacy and Lobbying

  • Meeting with a politician: framing the choice. Covering setting up a meeting, who should attend, framing the choice.

  • Roleplay politician meeting

  • Social media - formats. Basic do’s and don’ts

17.00 End - Networking drinks

Why: Because climate change is both the greatest health threat and the greatest health opportunity of the 21st century. As a health professional you have a voice of credibility and influence, and can positively influence change on this important issue.

The Climate and Health Alliance is a small Non-Government Organisation. The registration fee is on a cost recovery basis, and does not cover fees for presenters or trainers, but does cover travel, catering and some printed materials.
