Event description

Description

Darebin Council, along with Common Cause Australia, has been undertaking social research about how best to communicate and engage our community in relation to the climate emergency, and increase climate change and climate emergency knowledge and action amongst residents, businesses and community groups.

We know that climate change is a dangerous threat to all life on the planet, and that the earth is already too hot. We also know that with a determined effort, residents, local business and councils can work together to help restore a safe climate. But we have wondered how to communicate the urgency of the issue and the scale and speed of change required to our community.

The research has helped Council develop an overarching and compelling narrative about the climate emergency – and our role in addressing this issue. This narrative will underpin our ongoing communications and engagement in relation to the climate emergency and provide a plausible framework to the actions being asked of the community in the Climate Emergency Plan.

As someone also working to communicate the urgency and scale of action required to address the climate emergency, we invite you to come along to two workshops to learn more about the research undertaken and how to apply the learnings to your community engagement activities.

The workshops will include training and a toolkit to apply the research learnings, and will assist you in engaging your community around the issue of climate emergency so that together, we can make sure our communities and planet can thrive!

The workshop details are as follows:

Thursday 28th February, 6.30pm-8.30pm and Thursday 28th March, 6.30pm-8.30pm (2 workshops)

Jade Room, Intercultural Centre, 59A Roseberry Avenue, Preston

A light supper will be served.

Between the two workshops we hope that you will have an opportunity to apply the training/toolkit/research learnings. We will discuss your experiences with this in the second workshop so that we can learn from one another.
