Event description

Description

EVENING CPD | 1.5 FORMAL CPD POINTS

While climate change is characterised as a global problem, as architects we are tasked with responding to changing climates locally and specifically. For architects climate is a generator of cultural and design possibilities that suggests how diverse populations could interact with their surroundings.

The landscapes of Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore consist of different socio-ecological environments, and these environments are quickly transforming due to rising levels of carbon emissions and increasing urbanisation.

Focusing on these regions, speakers for this 1.5 formal CPD point talk will investigate how cultural ideas around architecture and climate are critical both to grasping society’s struggles with changing environments, and to shaping how populations will live in the decades ahead.

They will explore how factors like atmosphere, materials, shelter, and temperature can not only be emphasised in architectural design but also understood as significant historical and contemporary forces that have impacted permanent and transit settlements in these two regions of the world.
