Description

Please note that this is a TWO PART program occuring over two mornings: 26 and 27 June (9-12pm).

You must be prepared to complete both sessions (and you will be provided with a Completion Certificate).

Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) aims to provide information and practical classroom management strategies that are designed to improve student engagement and reduce unproductive social behaviour by establishing a positive, proactive classroom environment. Participants are presented with opportunities to practise skills in a forum that encourages reflection and discussion.

This series of workshops are being delivered by the team from the Department of Education's School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement.

CMS Foundation provides skills-based professional learning in managing student social behaviour, focusing on developing:

  • a common language to discuss unproductive student social behaviour and teachers’ own practices
  • a shared set of beliefs about student social behaviour

Workshop content includes:

  • practicing a repertoire of responses to address attention seeking behaviour including Bump Theory – low key responses, giving choices and effective consequences
  • increasing awareness and comprehension of instructional skills including questioning for engagement, and the skills of creating a safe and accountable classroom.
