FAQs

Who is this suitable for?

These rides are intended for beginners with a basic level of fitness and bike handling skills, and intermediate riders.

Each group will be guided by experienced ride leaders, along designated cycle routes, with a combination of off-road paths and quiet back-streets. Flat to shallow grades will be undertaken at a leisurely pace suitable for riders with a basic level of fitness.

Rides noted for beginners are shorter but otherwise also suitable for intermediate riders.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Participants must be at least 12 years of age. Children between 12 and 17 must be competent in bicycle handling, have road safety awareness and be accompanied by a responsible adult.

What should I bring?

Participants should bring their own bicycles, which must be in sound mechanical condition, and fitted with a bicycle bell. Each ride will commence with a safety check of bicycles.

If you do not own a bicycle, you may wish to hire one prior to the ride through any local bike hire operators.

You must wear a Standards Australia approved cycling helmet that is correctly fitted. We also recommend you wear comfortable attire for riding.

Is my ticket transferrable?

If you can't make it, you can pass your ticket on to someone else, but please make sure they are aware of the requirements and meeting place etc.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

We will have a list of people registered for each but it is recommended that you also bring your ticket, particularly if you make a late booking.

What if I can't attend?

There are limited numbers for each ride. If you can not make the ride, please ensure you cancel your ticket as soon as possible, as there may be people on a waiting list keen to take your place.

What if all the rides are fully booked?

Watch this space, we may release a further ride.

Where will the rides start and end?

All rides will start and end at Lambton Park, at the corner of Morehead and Howe Streets.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

On-street parking is available around Lambton Park and there is a public off-street carpark in De Vitre Street behind Lambton shops.

Of course we do recommend riding there. You can start your exploration by bicycle by checking out the cycling maps on the Newcastle Council website and finding a good bike route to ride.

What if I want to leave the ride along the way?

This is fine but please notify the ride leaders prior to commencing the ride, and please notify the sweep (ride leader at the tail) as you leave the ride.

Additional terms

All riders must comply with NSW road rules and directions given by police, route marshals and event staff, and ride in a careful and considerate manner at all times.
